Zune goes beyond Zune

In a recent interview with CBS Cnet, Enrique Rodriguez, Microsoft VP unveiled that Zune software connecting to Zune marketplace will expand to other hardware platforms, more than just Microsoft’s own devices.

It is natural to think, at least the first wave of Zune supported devices would be the Windows Mobile powered phones. The WM phones are made by a number of hardware manufacturers so the inclusion of Zune software would be easy for the new devices that come with the new version of OS (WM 6.5). The older devices will be subject to hardware manufacturer and wireless operator, carriers discretion.  (Read our previous article).

The most challenging part is, now consumer media purchase would go Zune marketplace and could shortcut the wireless operator and carriers opportunity to sell their media.  But I am confident there will be a revenue sharing plans underneath of all transaction.  Expect official announcement at MWC.
