"Contract-less" AT&T iPhone starting next week

Today The Boy Genius Report  published some screenshots indicating that AT&T plans to offer iPhone 3Gs at $599 or $699 without requiring the customer to sign a new two-year agreement nor activation fees, starting as early as next week.

We are still don’t understand the move. Phone without subsidy from the wireless carriers have not been selling  well, at least in the US. But other rumor that Apple & AT&T want to get rid of the iPhone inventory for possible new hardware could be more plausible .
