TiVo adds Blockbuster to become the ultimate set-top box

Blockbuster, the retail movie rental chain is pinning hope on a digital future with TiVo partnership

imageTiVo users  will be able to rent contents from Blockbuster. This addition augments more choices for Tivo user to stream contents. Current TiVo set-top boxes already can stream contents from  Amazon and Netflix, YouTube, Podcasts, etc..

Blockbuster will carry TiVo hardware in its 4,000 retail stores in the United States and Blockbuster On Demand will be accessible only to the approximately 800,000 TiVo owners  as part of the deal.

“We are excited to be teaming with TiVo, the company that created the DVR, to make Blockbuster’s entertainment content readily available to their millions of subscribers,” Jim Keyes, chief executive of Blockbuster, said in a statement. “Ultimately, our vision is to work with TiVo so that their subscribers can access movies not only through our On Demand service but also from our stores and through our by-mail service as well.”
