image This afternoon Apple  published its best non-holiday quarter ever, bolstered by blistering sales of its iPhone 3GS and its iPod Touches. Apple rung up $8.3 billion in sales in its third quarter ended June 27, up 12% from $7.5 billion a year ago.

"We are very proud of this result particularly given the economic environment around us," Apple Chief Financial Officer Peter Oppenheimer said during a conference call with analysts.

The iPhone 3G S sales figure mounted to 5.2 million, which is double the 2.6 million Mac computers, and the iPod scored less impressive figure of 10.2 million sold compared to last year same quarter but the more expensive iPod Touch sales grew 130%.
