Apple iTouch rumors round-up
Many rumors over the last few months clearly suggest that Apple will go ahead to release an tablet that might be called either mediapad or iTouch, the device can be described as a larger iPod Touch with better connectivity.
Here are what we have heard:
- March, Reuters reported that Apple had ordered a substantial batch of 10 inch touch-screens from Taiwan to be delivered in Q3 of 2009.
- April, the Wall Street Journal reported that Steve Jobs was actively involved in the development of the Tablet.
- July, the China Times reported that Apple will debut their new product in October for around $800 after agreeing to production deals with Foxconn, Wintek, and Dynapack.
- July, TheStreet.com is reporting that Apple will release a subsidized Tablet through Verizon
- July, Verizon might rush out LTE in 2010 for the APPLE new product
- The new device might be announced in October by Steve Jobs to make his comeback. The general availability will be early 2010..
- In addition to WiFi, The new device could have connectivity similar to Amazon Kindle, but not necessary tied to any particular carrier.
- Apple uses its own PA Semi chip instead of Intel Atom
- Apple realize the surprise success of the app store, create a new line of app to run on larger screen could generate substantial new revenue, which will further propel App store forward
- The device would be more attractive to view rich media contents, it might even bite in to Amazon Kindle market.
- Financial Times: the 10” tablet will be ready by September along with new iPod launch. Apple is collaborating with record companies, on a project codenamed "Cocktail" to provide some bundling solutions. Along with app store, Apple will debut a Book store, which clearly is getting to Amazon Kindle’s turf.
