Apple’s new patent applications
The latest iPhone OS 3.0 completes some catch-up’s with existing technologies such Voce calling, Copy/Paste, Bluetooth Stereo A2DP,… Apple iPhone development continues to enhance the iPhone as shown in its latest patent applications including haptics, fingerprint recognition, and RFID. Again these technologies have been seen before, but perhaps Apple will add its secret Apple sauce to them.
Note that these applications are not exclusive to the iPhone. You might eventually find them in other Apple products.
From ZDNet UK the 3 applications are:
- Haptic technology gives people sensory feedback–in the form of a vibration or pressure–when they use a touch screen. Essentially, it makes touching a key on a touch screen more akin to pressing a real button.
- The fingerprint recognition patent does not really have to do with authentication and security, but rather with identifying which fingers are in use, so as to associate different functions with different digits.
- The RFID reader patent would see RFID-communicating circuitry integrated with the circuitry behind the touch screen itself.
