image It seems strange for non-iPhone users that much restrictions that Apple imposes on app developers, but things seems to easy up a bit for ones while tighten up for others.

With the latest hardware,  the iPhone 3G S, third-party turn-by-turn navigation software are allowed to be present on Apple app store.

One of the prominent names  in this space is TomTom, which has provided navigation software for ages on other mobile platforms  just released its version for the iPhone.

The $99.99 app costs about the same on other mobile platforms seems to be over-priced for many iPhone users who are familiar with much cheaper apps on the iPhone/ iPod touch.

All the turn-by-turn navigation stuffs are there, in addition to the auto-rotate landscape-portrait that the iPhone provides.

A kit includes a mount to secure the iPhone to the windshield of a car is available for purchase. The 1.2 gigabyte download is available now on the iPhone app store, you have to download it first to your PC or Mac and then sync it up your iPhone.  Click here to view the app in the iTunes App Store.

Alternatively, there are other less expensive GPS navigation apps available on the App Store (Navigon at $70) and AT&T’s own Navigator app subscription $10/mo.
