Google to Launch Google Editions, an e-Book Distribution Platform
Amazon Kindle ecosystem seems to be eyed by many competitors. The latest is from Google, when it announced a new online service for booksellers next year called Google Editions.
The Web-based service enables reader to buys book online and read on several devices (the B&N e-Reader could possibly be one of them)
"Google Editions allows retail partners to sell their books, especially those who haven’t invested in a digital platform," said Tom Turvey, head of Google Book Search’s publisher partnership program. "We expect the majority (of customers) will go to retail partners not to Google. We are a wholesaler, a book distributor."
Google has been involved in the controversial project of scanning and indexing publications since 2004. Google Editions will be the first time the company will try to monetize their books project. [Via AP]
