Cure for Senior-Moment Parking Problem: AR Car-Finder for iPhone
Intridea Releases Augmented Reality Car-Finding Application for iPhone
Intridea today announced the release of Car Finder for the iPhone, an augmented reality application that allows you to locate your vehicle after parking.
Since the release of Apple’s 3.1 software for the iPhone, developers have been able to create applications that can overlay elements on top of the live camera view. Using these new tools, Intridea has developed an application that allows you to see exactly where your car is parked using the live camera view, which is commonly referred to as augmented reality. Car Finder uses the built in GPS and compass in the iPhone 3GS to be able to locate your vehicle after it’s position has been set.
Note that the A-GPS of your iPhone uses cell towers or satellite signals to find the position. While “there’s no map for that”, underground parking structure could be an issue using this app. Do not forget to add a quick note indicating the parking spot, should you need plan-B to find your car.
When using Car Finder, an individual is able to mark the location of their vehicle. When marking the location they can choose to add notes about where they have parked. As they walk away they will be able to see the how far away they are from their vehicle, the direction, and an overlay on top of their vehicle’s parking spot.
"Augmented reality provides a whole new way of delivering content and information to mobile users," said Brendan Lim, Director of Mobile Solutions at Intridea. "Car Finder is a simple example of what’s possible and what’s to come in the near future."
Car Finder is available only for the iPhone 3GS because it utilizes the built in compass, which is not available on older models. It is available in the App Store right now for $0.99.
