As many Linux-based OS have have launched for the Netbooks, none seemed to gain adoption, hopefully, Google’s Google Chrome OS announcement will change the landscape. Google Chrome OS  will not be available until this time next year, but you might not have to wait for it. This week, Jolicloud, an Ubuntu Linux-based OS has launched in public beta, the time could not be better to catch the momentum.

image The lightweight OS comes with an eye-candy interface  and best of all, you don’t have to erase your existing OS and data to try. You can easily download the Beta  Jolicloud Express  and install it in a separate partition. You will have the option to switch back to Windows if needed anytime.

“Switching OS has never been so easy. In less than 15 minutes you will enjoy Jolicloud alongside your old Windows and all your data will be perfectly safe”

From the fast booting time to iPhone like interface and the ease of installing app, which has been a sore point of many Linux-based OS. Granted, the new OS is not from an 8 pound-gorilla Google, nevertheless  Jodicloud has many reasons for you to fall in love.

I tested it via VM on my desktop and it ran surprisingly well for be netbook optimized. I was wondering how well the setup actually worked and whether or not you get the dual boot options with Windows 7 so I skipped that part. Good to see the option is intact.
