Music Streaming, Subscription is Coming to iPhone

2010 will be marked as the year, where music streaming by subscription starts emerging to Apple ecosystem. Microsoft Zune HD has had this model for while but the device is not popular enough to get industry attention.

imageWith the recent acquisition of Lala, Apple is clearly showing it will gear up for its next music streaming war with a flurry of new heavy hitters music subscription apps such:

  • Spotify, a music subscription service was released initially in Europe with rave review, Spotify will make its way cross Atlantic next year.
  • Rdio app, (still in closed beta), a much hyped stealth music service from the founders of Kazaa and Skype Janus Friis and Niklas Zennstrom. Rdio allows user to compose playlist of unrestricted songs with unlimited skipping and instant playback. Rdio will be truly on demand music service.

It‘s interesting to see  how Apple/Lala, Padora, Last.fm will react to this new business plan. One thing for sure, it will be a good year for consumers.
