Foursquare for Blackberry Released
The location-based status update service Foursquare just released its version for Blackberry (8000 and 9000 series). Along with Gowalla, Loopt,.. the “check-in” social services have become addictive geo-social game for many smartphone users.
Using the built-in GPS on their smartphone to check-in places they go to, they can also see where friends are and check in at different locations allowing for “virtual badges.” The more they check in the more points they get and eventually start unlocking special badges.
While all the basic features are available, the app is still lacking few side features such as allowing users to add new friends.
“From a core-functionality perspective, the app for BlackBerry is equal, but for those side features, for now you still have to go to foursquare via the mobile web,” says Foursquare cofounder Naveen Selvadurai.
iFoursquare launched the iPhone version in March 2009 and then expanded to Google’s Android platform and Palm Pre devices.
