Twitter.com Displays Location of your Tweets, (If You Opt-in)
Few months ago, Twitter added geo-tag along with your Tweets, but only third party apps could use it. Today, Twitter.com actually display the location where the tweet is initiated.
This feature is activated only by opt-in basis, meaning you have to turn it on in your Twitter account settings. Once you’ve opted-in, you will be able to add your location information to individual Tweets as you compose them on Twitter.com and with other applications or mobile devices that support this feature. The location information that is shared publicly can be either your exact location (your coordinates) or your place (like a neighborhood or town) using the drop down menu under the “What’s happening box. You can x out to update without the location attached.
Using Tweet With Your Location
To tweet with your location on a per-tweet basis after you’ve enabled Tweet Location, click the crosshair icon that appears below your update box on the lower left.
You will then be asked to let Firefox "Remember Your Location."
Make sure the "Remember for this site" box is checked, and that you click "Share Location."
Your location will then show below the update box.
The geo-tagging display could be very useful in many occasions but it can also interfere with your privacy. The geo-tagging implementation on Twitter.com is very nicely done, and provides flexibility. We should expect other third party apps will follow soon.
