Twitter is Buying an iPhone Client: Tweetie is the Winner
Last September, Twitter raised $100 million, it starts its shopping spree with the acquisition of Atebits, the maker of Tweetie. Tweetie is an app running on the Apple iPhone and Mac computer, it uses Twitter API to display time line, manage Tweets,… The app is known for its elegant look and feel design, similar to an Apple built-in app.

In the past, Twitter acquired Summize and Mixer Labs to add search and location-based services.
This acquisition and the last engagement to help RIM producing an official Twitter client for Blackberry announce a shift in strategy. Until now, Twitter has only focused on its core services and left the client development to third party developers.
The move to edge from Twitter might also create friction with many third party developers, who have been considerably contributing to Twitter success.
The Twitterverse has certainly become a viable platform for monetization. We think the move to from the core the edge might help Twitter to better achieve profitability.
Note that the Tweetie on Mac has been using ads from Fusion Ads.
Tweetie app currently costs $3 in the iTunes AppStore, but in the following weeks Twitter will rename it and offer for free. [Source Twitter Blog]
