“If you believe in openness, if you believe in choice, if you believe in innovation for everyone, then welcome to Android,” said Google’s vice president of engineering Vic Gundotra as he introduced the new version of Android OS 2.2 (codenamed FroYo) at the Google I/O conference.
The new OS has been touted as it has the fastest browser in the industry (2x to 5x when compared with version 2.1) and features over 20 new enhancements, notably features for enterprise usage. such full support for Microsoft Exchange and the ability to translate native security features to mobile handsets including remote wipe
The new SDK provides many API to developers to better access to Web app, access to device hardware features (accelerometer and camera, etc.. ) and Voice translation in real time is also included. Lastly the support of Adobe Flash and AIR platform that is something competitive products from Apple don’t have.
With the open platform and the ability to run on several hardware platforms, Android is gaining huge momentum to bolster Google position for years to come.
