Bing for iPhone adds Social Networking Client and Barcode Scan
Bing’s iPhone app just got an update with 2 new major features: Social Networking (Social)and Visual scanning (Camera).
These two features are available from the front page of the app along with existing ones such Images, Local, Directions, Maps, Shopping, Movies.
Social – Bing app now allows you to connect to your Facebook and Twitter accounts and see combined status update stream from your friends from within the Bing app similar to basic fuctions provided by Twitter, Facebook clients. You have the option to post new status, reply, retweet,..

The search results will include relevant results from your social network along with the traditional Web results. When you find something you like using the app, you can easily share it with your network on Facebook, Twitter, or through email. You also have option to tag your opinion with Discovered, Likes, Dislikes…to the status.
Bing developer team found out that over 40% of the time when people ask ambiguous queries that don’t have a defined answer (like where should I go to eat tonight), social networks are faster at providing a great answer than traditional search engines.
Visual Scanning – Similar to Google Goggles app, Bing app now features visual scanning of barcodes and cover art. Use the camera on your iPhone to take a snapshot of barcode of any product or the cover art of books, CDs, DVDs, or video games.
In addition to the above two new major features, the team also made improvements to the Movies search with additional video and trailers and easier access to showtimes. The new Shopping section lets you find products faster along with prices and links to stores where you can order the products.
