Microsoft Promises Speech Feature in WP 7 Will Surpass Android
On recent Android versions, the speech recognition is omnipresent where data input is needed. The feature is a great selling point for Android phones. Apple realized voice has become an important part of the mobile OS and acquired subsequently Siri, the speech recognition software company.
On the upcoming Windows Phone 7, Microsoft emphasizes the voice feature and promises to leapfrog over Google and Apple by using cloud-based speech recognition and natural language processing technology as reported by ComputerWorld
"We believe speech is not a separate application. Rather it is an integral part of the user experience," said Zig Serafin, Microsoft unified communications general manager, before an audience at the SpeechTEK 2010 conference, being held this week in New York.
Microsoft acquired sometime ago TellMe from the founder of the popular Flipboard app on the iPad. While Google only uses speech recognition to input data where keyboard is normally needed. Microsoft can interact with the phone to give an order. If the phone is given an ambiguous command, the handset or appropriate service can ask the user to clarify the request.
