More Details and Video of Samsung Galaxy Tab
As anticipated, Samsung has unveiled its first Android powered tablet at the IFA consumer electronic show in Germany.
The tablet called Samsung Galaxy Tab denotes the device is part of the company latest Samsung high-end mobile device line.
Samsung targets the new popular class of mobile devices pioneered by the Apple iPad with differentiators are purposely designed to fill the features that the iPad is lacking, such the front and back cameras (1.3MP and 3MP resolution respectively) for video chat and video recording and a smaller and lighter form factor (7” display and with 380 grams) will make this device more portable than the 9.7” iPad at 680-730 grams..
Since this is an Android device, users can get apps from Android Marketplace. Hopefully the apparition of the new class will fuel more development on the larger devices.
On the software side, even though, the Samsung Galaxy Tab carries the latest Android 2.2 with Adobe Flash support and popular video codec formats such DivX and XviD, etc.. the OS from Google has not proven to be effective on tablet size device, not mentioning that it did not set the word on fire on the mobile phone neither, as far as the UI usability is concerned. The 3G and WiFi enabled device is said to be launched in Europe on Vodafon first in October and to other markets later in the year.
