VLC is Heading to iPad

VLC, a free, open source cross-platform multimedia player, has been known as the-media-player-that-plays-almost-anything you throw at it, VLC also supports various streaming protocols. The app has been approved by Apple and it is up for grabs in iTunes App Store.

Why would you need it? well so you you can play conveniently videos  encoded in DivX, Xivd, Avi, Mpg, Mkv, etc.. without the need to convert to Apple format. You can use iTunes built-in file management to sync your media files..
