Check-Ins Only to Facebook Groups Possible with Mappr
The iPhone mobile app called Mappr, just added the much needed location based check-in to your Facebook Groups. Facebook mobile users have been able to use native app with Places feature to check-in, however the update is posted Facebook account for all your friends to see. The app is still lacking the capability to only post check-in location to selected Groups.
Facebook is great social tool to share personal information for close friends and family, but many of us often get carried away by accepting or sending friends request to and from those we don’t know. Thanks to the recent addition of the Facebook Groups feature, which allows to segregate your small circle of friends and family members from your Facebook larger group of friends. You can create a group and choose the members among your Facebook friends. Updates from all the members are only shown within that group, along with a notification email update whenever change occurs. Group members are chosen by the creator of the group without permission, but they can subscript or opt out if they choose to.
Location-based check-in has been a great tool to let friends to know your location in real-time, but it could be a controversial and dangerous feature for people with bad intentions.
Mappr addresses that concerns with posting only to your groups and with the Group instant email update, your group members can be notified quicker with push notification.
The app also offers Foursquare and Twitter connections but if privacy is your number one concern, I would stick with Facebook Groups only.
