Google Discontinues GOOG-411 Service

image Google issued a statement announcing the discontinuance of its  1-800-GOOG-411 service, a voice-powered directory assistance service that connects you quickly to businesses across the U.S. and Canada. The service will be discontinued starting November 12, 2010.

If you use a feature phone with text, you can however,  send a text message with the name and location of the business to 466453 ("GOOGLE") and Google will text you the information,

For non-Android smartphone, you can download Voice Search to search Google by speaking instead of typing.

For Android phone, you can use Voice Input  to fill in any text field on Android by speaking instead of typing. and Voice Actions to control your Android phone with voice commands. For example, you can call any business quickly and easily just by saying its name.

Alternatively, you can still use:

  1. 1-800-CALL-411: Microsoft Live Search nationwide directory
  2. 1-800-555-TELL or SMS text to 83556: Microsoft TellMe: Directory, Stocks, News, etc…
