Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone & Android To Offer Video Chat Over WiFi and 3G/4G (Update: Released!)
Update: The app has been just released in the iTunes App Store
Yahoo! seems to go all the way out today, after revamping its Web search engine, Yahoo is eying the mobile space with the submission of Yahoo! Messenger app to both Apple iTunes app store and Android marketplace.
The instant service has 81 million users worldwide (and compatible with Windows Live Messenger). The mobile app has been approved by Apple according to a Yahoo spokesperson, it will offer video chat over WiFi and 3G. The app challenges Apple FaceTime, a video chat app for iPhone 4 and latest iPod Touch. FaceTime only works over WiFi. Skype app for the iPhone does not offer video chat, even though Skype video calls are one of its most popular features on the PC’s.
Earlier this week, T-Mobile announced the inclusion of Yahoo app for video calling on its myTouch, we expect more Android phone will adopt Yahoo! Messenger for its popularity. Furthermore, with strong tie between Yahoo and Microsoft, I expect Y! Messenger would land on the upcoming Windows Phone 7 if Live Messenger is not ready for Video chat on its mobile version.
