Viber is a iPhone app that helps you to place your international calls for free over WiFi and 3G. (Viber works within the US too, but users don’t get charge by AT&T for iPhone-to-iPhone calls, therefore, there is no incentive here) . The service only requires you and your overseas friends to register with your own iPhone number. And you can use Viber app instead of the built-in phone app on your iPhone to make all calls. The look and feels are the same including your standard contact list.
Normal call are routed to the normal iPhone phone app, but if you call your overseas registered friends, the call is routed over VoIP either over WiFi when available or 3G. Watch the below video for more details.
Viber is available in Apple App Store.

Hi,
I would like to add to your great article that Viber also supports iPod-Touch and iPad (with the limitations of it not being a phone, of course).
Also – we are currently working on an integration for Viber with Android and Blackberry. once this happens, it will allow users in the USA to call their friends for free not only inside AT&T. of course – international calls can be made even now by using Viber – absolutely free.
We will be happy to assist any user who has questions/suggestions about Viber at our Forums: support.forum.com
Have a great day,

I have a question about Viber.
I have a friend in Buenos Aires, Argentina, who has an Iphone and has Viber.
I am trying to connect to his Iphone but I can’t. i would like to know what exactly should i dial to get his Iphone cell number and connect to Viber.
i have tried the following area codes:
011-549-11 + his cell Iphone number.
would you be so kind as to tell me what should I do to connect to his Iphone? or what should he dial to connect to my cell phone in Toronto, Canada.
Thank you for your help.
sincerely,
Osvaldo
Once your friend is registered to Viber, you should see in the Viber address book the Viber logo next to your friend name. Click on the logo to place the call. You should not have to worry about dialing the number. If it doesn’t, you can always submit a support request here: http://www.viber.com/
Hi Osvaldo,
you should have no trouble dialing your friend’s number at all, even if he is in Atgentina. as long as you dial his full number (including area code), Viber call should get through. same goes for him, if he dials a full Canadian number.
please tell me if you encounter problems again.
Viber call when can use android mobile? We are waiting for that.

What about Japan. My gf and I have Viber and still no viber tag next to the number or person. We can’t connect cause it acts as if we both don’t have Viber. Very frustrating.

Viber.
should both of us (the caller and the receiver) have net wi-fi ow 3G? if we both have Viber and i have net but my friend not.. is it still work ?
If you are connected to the internet and you call a Viber friend who is NOT connected, the call naturally wouldn’t take place.
Both parties need to have net (3G or WiFi) in order to make the call.

Viber.
Hi,
Do I need to add country code when using viber and how? Im in Taiwan and I want to call my husband thru viber in japan
If your husband registered his Viber using his Japanese number, you can go to the Viber Keypad and manually dial the Japanese number in its full form, with a “+” in the beginning (a long press on “0″ would generate the +).
For example: +8140……
If you encounter problems, let me know.
my brother in Singapore is on Viber and I’m in HKG on Viber too. But we both cannot find the word “Viber” beside each other registered iphone number. Pls advise.
@Mi
First, please make sure the number is written in its full format on both your iPhones. Also, try dialing the number manually through the Viber Keypad.
If it still doesn’t work, enter Viber and find that person in the “All” contact list. Enter his details, change a digit, save and exit. Then enter his contact again, change the digit back (to the original, correct number), save and exit. Wait about 10 minutes and see if he’s recognized as a Viber user now.
I can’t receive any access code from Viber. I’m here in Japan and I downloaded the app and try to access it but it wouldn’t send me any access code. I tried to press the `no code?` button which directed me to another place where I can get a voicemail instead but still nothing.
hi @khris
Please delete Viber, wait 24 hours and try again.
If the problem remains, please specify what cellular provider you are subscribed to, and also check with other friends on the same network if they managed to receive the Viber code or not.
Regards,
Viber.
Hi:
My wife in Australia called me thru Viber, I see incoming call and picked but we cannot hear anything, it seems connected but no sounds from Australia or neither from my side in USA, please advise what went wrong with my Android? ?
I appreciate
trying to add a friend from Japan. after i add her to contact, there is no viber sign beside her name. i add her name like +81 090 XXXXXXXX. is this the right way to add her? or I need to put 011 in front of 81
@Cannot hear or cannot receive text
Hi,
It sounds like one of the sides might be behind a firewall or a router, or a 3G network that’s blocking Viber’s ports.
Are both of you connected to WiFi networks or 3G?
Please make sure neither you nor the other side are connected to networks that might be blocking Viber (for example – a router running a firewall).
1. First, please try uninstalling and reinstalling Viber when connected to different WiFi networks. Does it work now?
2. Also, please make sure the following ports are enabled on your routers or firewalls:
TCP: 5242 + 4244
UDP: 5243 + 9785
(if you are not sure how to enable ports, contact your router manufacturer)
@Bei -
The number should be added in its full international format. In Japan’s case, you should dial the country code (+81), the cellular code (EXCLUDING the “0″ in the beginning), and then the rest of the number.
i live in japan and i want to call a friend who lives in the US how do i enter his number?
i live in italy how do i call in the philippines can i put code 0063 or +63
Will I need an international sim card for my iPhone to make calls to my family in the US while I’m in Japan?
@kwon and @nilo -
In order to call someone who is overseas through Viber, you need to dial/save the number in its full international format. Full instructions can be found in this page:
http://helpme.viber.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/7/0/iphone-viber-free-text-messaging-and-calling-world-wide-how-to-dial
Please let us know if all worked fine, and enjoy Viber
@Stephanie -
Nope, you don’t need it.
As long as both sides have Viber installed on their devices, Viber calls can be made all over the world, assuming both sides are connected to the internet.
installed my viber application here in the philippines. I just would like to ask if i will bring this out of the country, will this be working still?
@mae -
Yep, Viber works between any 2 Viber users, as long as both of them are connected to the internet. No matter where they are in the world
I live in Japan and my Brother is in the US. We both have Viber but we are not about to call each other and the Viber mark do not show up. I can talk to people here in Japan and he can talk to people in the US no problem but we can not talk to each other.
Please help.
Best Regards
Broderick
I am trying to connect with my sister in Mexico who also has viber and we both have iphones but for some reason I cannot connect with her. it keeps saying that she does not have viber. but she clearly does.
@Monica and @Broderick -
The source of this issue could greatly vary. Please read this short page in our HelpDesk, outlining some possible workarounds that will help reboot synchronization of the contact list: http://bit.ly/rRtPqk
(The instructions refer to iPhone, but are relevant to all phones nevertheless).
i live in philippines and my friend is in the Australia. she already installed viber on her phone . How do i call her? do i need to add country code when calling her on viber and how?
@mae -
You need to dial/save her number in the international format. In Australia’s case: +61xxxxxxxx
* note – you need to DROP the “0″ of the cellular number’s prefix.
I am from the usa and I have a friend in australia. I am trying to add them on viber for blackberry. He has viber for iphone but we still cannot connect? How do I go about doing this?
@Natasha -
Hi,
Which error message exactly do you see? Please elaborate on the problem.
Note that Viber for Blackberry still does contain our calling service.
Hello
Thank you for your very useful answers. I was connected with my friends in Japan and Iran. But I had problem with my friends In US. I noticed that I saved their number with 001 instead of +1.
My problem solved.
Thank you
@Alemeh -
We’re very glad to hear that all works fine now. Enjoy Viber, and if you have any more questions in the future, please don’t hesitate to contact me again
Hello
I want to call some one with viber App in Iran so I want to make sure when I am calling to he/she my numbers display on his/her phone?
Thanks
Hi, my husband is currently in Fiji and does not have a smart phone. I have been receiving calls from him thru viber even though he swears he hasn’t got a new phone with apps. Is it possible for him to be calling through viber if he does not have the app?
Thank you
@saeedeh -
Yep,
Your “Viber ID” is your real telephone number, so when you call someone through Viber they will see your number on their screen (or your name, if they have your number saved in their contact lists).
@Maxx -
If you are getting calls through Viber (and you are sure of it), then it must be calls from someone who has the app installed
Yes I’m definately sure, some of the calls come up “viber” and others are “regular call”. He says that he is still calling from his crappy $20 prepaid Nokia but this can not be possible??
@Maxx -
He might have registered to Viber using the NUMBER of that nokia on some other devices that DOES support Viber, but surely the Nokia device itself cannot (by any means) utilize Viber.
how to add contacts on viber from fiji?
