Skyfire press release
Mountain View, Calif. – December 22, 2010. Right in time for Christmas, Apple has approved Skyfire for iPad, the first alternative iPad browser with support for videos designed for Adobe® Flash® Player. The browser also features deep social-media integration from Facebook and Twitter, as well as comprehensive tools from Google.
Skyfire for iPad will be available at 5pm PST today in the U.S. App Store. Stay tuned for additional country availability announcements to follow. Consumers can follow Skyfire at www.twitter.com/Skyfire or at www.facebook.com/GetSkyfire.iphone for the most current launch information.
Right in Time for the Holiday:
Thanks to the approval, Christmas has come early for consumers frustrated with the lack of support on the iPad for videos designed for Flash Player. According to a survey by Business Insider, browsing is the single most popular activity on iPads—more than email, social network apps, and games combined. Thanks to Skyfire, great browsing and social network access, plus wider video access, are now available on the popular tablet.
What’s in Skyfire for iPad:
Skyfire is the first mobile browser built for the social-media generation. Skyfire’s cloud-enabled toolbars include:
- · Video –The “Video” icon enables you to play millions of videos designed for Flash Player that otherwise don’t play on iOS devices. This unlocks content typically trapped behind error messages, question marks and blue Legos, by transcoding the Flash Video content into Apple-approved formats on Skyfire’s servers.
- · Facebook and Twitter QuickView – Get instant access to your News Feed, profile, friends, inbox, events and Places.
- · FireplaceTM Feed Reader – A simple but addictive tool that provides a filtered list of your Facebook feed that only includes media your friends are sharing—just the links to browsable web pages, images, and videos posted by your Facebook friends.
- · Popular Content – You just finished reading a story on one of your favorite web sites and want to quickly decide what to read next. Click on the Popular button on the SkyBarTM and instantly see what content on that site is most popular with your friends and within the 500+ million user Facebook community.
- · Google Reader – As with Facebook Quickview, Google Reader keeps you logged into Google with one-touch access to Gmail, Buzz, and RSS.
- · Universal Like Button – Skyfire for iPad puts the Facebook Like Button on every page of the Internet. No scrolling around searching for the button on the page; simply click on the SkybarTM Like Button to easily ‘like’ or ‘unlike’ the page you are viewing or to share
the page with your friends via Facebook, Twitter, or email. Instead of the one million sites reportedly incorporating Facebook Connect today, now the Like button is available on a billion sites across the internet.
