Asus Eee Android & Windows Based Tablets
When people say there is no form factor differentiator for tablet devices, Asus will prove them wrong. The Taiwanese company in introducing a foray of Android based tablet devices.
- Starting with the smallest for factor in the series, the Eee Pad MeMO
a 7” capacitive screen designed for its portability and its taking handwritten notes capability using the supplied stylus pen. A device seems to suit perfectly the Asian market.
The diminutive size device has a mini-HDMI port for 1080p for video playback on external monitor. - Eee Pad Slider: a 10” IPS (In-Plane Switching) touchscreen tablet– IPS is the LCD technology used in the Apple iPad. The device sports a horizontal slide out QWERTY keyboard, which adds bunk (and convenience) to the overall unit. The unit weighted at 1.98 pounds, and 2/3 of an Inch thick.
The Eee Pad Slider is powered by the NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, a dual core CPU with NVIDIA GeForce Graphic Processor included. (the CPU required to run the latest Android OS). 1.2 MP and 5MP cameras front facing and back respectively. WiFi and optional 3G connectivity. - Eee Pad Transformer: Nearly identical to the Eee Pad Slider. The transformer boast a slim 12.98mm thick design. It comes optionally with a docking keyboard to convert the tablet in to a traditional laptop and extends to 16 hours of battery life.
The biggest question is the availability of the next version of Android, which will be optimized for tablet devices. Android Honeycomb is rumored for Summer 2011.
- Lastly, ASUS also introduces the Slate EP121, an Intel Intel Core i5 dual-core Windows- based tablet, sports a 1280×800 resolution 12” capacitive touch screen, the unit feature an on-screen keyboard or optional external Bluetooth keyboard and it looks like a detachable back module.
32GB or 64GB of SSD storage (expandable via SDXC) are available, up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM. All models come standard with 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, a two-megapixel camera, two USB 2.0 ports and a mini-HDMI port for connecting to external displays.
