Google Goggles Adds Faster Barcode Scanning, Print Ads Recognition and Sudoku Solving (Video)
Today, Google improves speed of barcode and QR code scanning of its Goggles 1.3 client for Android and adds print ads recognition as well as a fun feature to solve Sudoku game to all other Google mobile clients
Google Goggle is a search feature allowing to snap a photo used as search argument, until now only support artwork, wine label, tourist point of interests, etc…
Barcode Scanning:
Android users will enjoy the under second speed to get results when scan barcodes or QR codes. Simply tap on the result to read product reviews, check in-store availability and compare prices.
Print ads in magazines and newspapers
Google seems to scan and index all the print ads in the major U.S. newspapers and magazines from August 2010 onwards, so you can snap any print ads, Goggles will recognize print ad and return web search results about the product or brand.
While this is a great feature, the real evolution will be when mainstream advertisement adopts Near Field Communication (NFC) technology similarly to the Nexus S to connect the advertisement just by the touch or approximate.
Sudoku
Lastly, as a more research and engineering showcase, Goggles now can solve the Sudoku game within second. Now, Goggles on Android and iPhone can recognize puzzles and provide answers to help make you faster than a Sudoku champ. Google Goggles 1.3 with improved barcode scanning is available for download in Android Market. Recognition of print ads and Sudoku solver is now enabled for the Google Goggles app on Android, as well as the Goggles component of the Google Mobile App on iPhone.
