The recent success of Apple Macbook Air has sparked some ideas in Windows camp. Forget those under powered under priced and low margin netbooks, Samsung is jumping to the premium stylish form factor lappies packing with big performance helped by Intel second-generation processors.

imageIn comparison, the duralumin sculpted Samsung 9 Series has a hair over half of an inch profile (.63” or 16.3 mm) according to Samsung. Apple MacBook Air thickness ranges .11-.68 inches (3-17 mm) Both laptops weigh 2.9 pounds (1.73 kg). The two laptops feature 13.3-inch displays with 1366 x 768 resolution, DDR3 memory and no optical drive. But the 9 is two full Intel processor generations ahead of the Air, with second-generation 1.4GHz i5  2537M Core processor compared to the aged 1.86GHz Core 2 Duo processor used on the MacBook Air.

Specification:

1.4GHz Intel Core i5 processor (2537M), with 3MB cache and turbo boost to 2.3GHz; 13.3-inch backlit-LED display (400 nit); 1366×768 screen resolution; 128GB sold-state drive; 4GB DDR3 memory; Intel HD GT2 integrated graphics; 3 watt (1.5W x 2) stereo speakers with 1.5 watt sub-woofer; USB 3.0; Bluetooth 3.0; 802.11b/g/n; WiMax; Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional (64-bit for both); 6.5 hours claimed battery life.

Depending on the configuration, the price will start at $1,600. The Applel MacBook Air starts at $300 cheaper.   Hopefully price will be more competitive as we approach the launch date, which is not available at this time.
