image Motorola Atrix 4G has brought some interest with its capability to power a keyboard, screen shell to turn it into a full size laptop. The companion Webtop app  allows the combo to run a full Firefox browser amongst other things. Today, Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha unveiled that his company will bring its Webtop apps and their corresponding docks to all of its high-end smartphones in the second half of this year.

For now, AT&T has the exclusivity of the Motorola Atrix. A similar high-end smartphone from Motorola will make its way to Verizon, dubbed as the Droid Bionic, which might benefit the docking solution.

The shell has been available for unattractive price of $500, but Motorola and AT&T recently sweetened the deal by bundling  it with the phone for the same $500 with 2 year contract. In order to make the solution to work, users are required to have the  tethering plan at $20 a month in addition to voice and data plans.

The new Tablet class has sparked interests among smartphone users with its larger screen and better data input. To combine with a smartphone for 3G/4G connectivity such Webtop solution seems to make sense as opposed to buy a 3G/4G capable tablet and a separate smartphone. Another viable solution is to buy a smartphone with hotspot capability and a WiFi only tablet would offer better flexibility.
