Sony Xperia Mobile Phone Line-Up
Sony Ericsson has just unveiled the long-awaited Xperia Play dubbed as the “PlayStation phone”. A CDMA version of the new handset will go on sale in the US with Verizon Wireless in few months.
The focus of this Android based phone obviously is gaming. The phone is featuring a slide-out PSP game console-like pad. The heart of this device is powered by the Qualcomm CPU optimized for gaming/graphics on a large 4” display.
To complete the trio, Sony also announced two other handsets: The QWERTY keyboard equipped Xperia Pro and the mid range Xperia Neo. All new handsets, including the Xperia Play, are based on latest Android version 2.3 (for Smartphone), also known as Gingerbread.
Both phones feature a 854×480 3.7” display, 1Ghz Snapdragon CPU, an exclusive Sony Bravia graphics engine, 320MB of RAM, FM radio, Sony Ericsson’s Timescape UI, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB syncing and mass storage, a music player, an 8MP with LED flash and HD video recording, and a front-facing 2-megapixel camera.
The announcement accents on the fact that for the first time, Sony joints Verizon line-up, getting Verizon Wireless’ support should give sales of the Xperia Play a big lift in the States. Sony is expected to beef up its game library to support the device. At launch 50 titles will be available, mostly in Android Market.
