Samsung Starts Mass Producing Transparent LCD Panel (Video)
Samsung just announced start mass production of its industry first 22” tranparent LCD panel with contrast ratio of 500:1 with WSXGA+ 1680*1050 resolution. The screen will come in black and white as well as color.
The transparent LCD panel has a high transparency rate, which enables a person to look right through the panel like glass, and it consumes 90% less electricity compared with a conventional LCD panel using back light unit. It’s because a transparent LCD panel utilizes ambient light such as sun light, which consequently reduces the dependency on electricity for generating power.
While the technology could open up to a wide range of future application, the most obvious use would be in advertising. A clear panel could show dynamic information on a showcasing window with the real objet in the back (car, purse, watch, perfume, etc..). Another use would be limited but lucrative teleprompter for TV industry. The future is here!
