Look Ma, No Keys with Lockitron Lock/Unlock App
A new solution, offered by Mountain View, CA base start-up Lockitron, will help you to finally get rid of your home, office keys just by using your smartphone app. The solution also gives you the capability to grant temporary access of your premises remotely. (The solution still let you lock or unlock with traditional keys, should you don’t have your smartphone handy).
Lokitron kit consists of a new deadbolt in several styles to match your current door, a small device to hook-up with your broadband wireless router. Lock/unlock operation is done by contacting with their server via your smartphone app. You can lock/ unlock from almost everywhere. You can also grant access to a friend, family member or a contractor, just by sending a SMS text message to their phone and require they send back a special code to get the door unlock.
In addition, Lockitron also offers a NFC (Near Field Communication) capability for smartphone users with NFC chip built-in so lock and unlock operation can be done by simply waving the phone over an NFC tag.
The Lockitron deadbolt model is fully compatible as a replacement for most standard deadbolts. In most cases, the installation takes no more than 15 minutes and can be completed with the included screwdriver.
The Lockitron Deadbolt kit includes everything that you need to get Lockitron set up at your home or office starting at $295 with no monthly fees for our basic service. This includes access from anywhere in the world by smartphone or laptop as well as the ability to grant permanent or temporary keys to guests and co-workers. Text message access can be enabled as a premium service.

- Broadband internet connection and available Ethernet jack on router
- Ability to place base station with wired internet connection within 10-30 feet of door
- Wood door – for metal doors, it is recommended that you place a piece of wood, cardboard or rubber between your door and the inside Lockitron unit and place base
