Amazon Introduces First Kindle Fire Tablet and New e-Reader Models Priced Lower Than Expected
Today the e-commerce giant, Amazon unveils its first 7” Android-based tablet priced only $199. Even though, using Google Android OS 2.1, the interface reportedly features a brand new scheme carrying Amazon look and feels. At the same time Amazon adds 3 more new models of e-book reading focused devices priced starting from $79.
Betting on its existence cloud infrastructure, contents, apps and a vast customer base, Amazon is poised to take aim at Apple and could possible put a dent to the unstoppable iPad train. Lacking a solid ecosystem, tablets from prominent rivals such as Hewlett-Packard Co. and Research In Motion Ltd. have fallen short.
The Kindle Fire will have just essentials. no camera nor a microphone. The device features only Wi-Fi connectivity and buyers will get 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime, the company’s $79 yearly membership service that includes free all-you-can-eat streaming video and free two-day shipping.
In addition, Amazon also introduces the new book reading focus Kindle and Kindle Touch are $79 and $99 respectively. Kindle Touch 3G is the new top of the line e-reader with free 3G – no monthly fees or annual contracts – and is only $149.
