Being Offline Should Not Slow Down Your Productivity: Google Adds Offline Capability to Its Gmail, Docs and Calendar
Google is boosting its Chrome OS with offline capability of its productivity apps such Gmail, Docs and Calendar. Of course Chrome browser users from other OS platforms can also take same advantage just by installing the first Gmail offline from Chrome App Store to their Chrome browser. Offline Calendar and Docs are coming in the next few days.
The Web-based apps in general require user to be connected to the Web to view and use, the HTML5-powered Gmail offline allows the same functions excepting the real Web actions. For instance, replying to an email will not be sent until you go back to online mode again. Nevertheless, it allows to read downloaded emails and to reply, forward, etc… ahead of time. This should make your offline time (in an airplane) more productive.
The Gmail offline, actually has been borrowed from the tablet version with the same look and feels. While the Web-based Gmail includes Contacts. The offline version does not
In the coming days, Google Calendar and Google Docs let you seamlessly transition between on- and offline modes. When you’re offline in Google Calendar, you can view events from your calendars and RSVP to appointments. With Google Docs you can view documents and spreadsheets when you don’t have a connection. Offline editing isn’t ready yet, but we know it’s important to many of you, and we’re working hard to make it a reality. To get started using Google Calendar or Google Docs offline, just click the gear icon at the top right corner of the web app and select the option for offline access.
