If you want the best compromise between portability and picture/ video quality comparable to DSLR, look no further, Canon just announced two new high-end products, the S100 and the SX40 HS, which will replace the S95 and the SX30 IS respectively.

Below are the photos of the two champion of low light  photo taking, thanks to Canon HS (high sensitivity) sensor system. The SX40 HS is on the left and the S100 (shown here in silver body, but the black version will still be available) on the right.

The two new models benefit powerful new DIGIC V image processor which should improve the cameras’ image quality  (the S100 gets a bump up to 12.1 MP from 10MP of the previous S95 model, but the SX40 HS got a slight downgrade from the SX30 14 MP). The cameras are capable of 1080p video shooting. Canon assures the combination of a CMOS rather than a CCD sensor and a DIGIC V processor will still result in a sharp increase in image quality. The two cameras also come with a new intelligent image stabilization system to prevent motion blur and a welcome GPS built-in for photo geo-tagging.

The larger body Canon SX40 offers a “super-zoom” 35x wide-angle optical zoom and 2.7-inch LCD. In addition, the   SX40 gets improved smart auto settings for 32 different shooting situations.

The S100, offers 5x optical zoom along with a 3-inch wide LCD screen. Avid photographers will enjoy the additional RAW mode for more flexible post-processing editing.

Both cameras will be available in the coming month with a price tag around $430. Comparable products include Panasonic LX5, Samsung TL500, Nikon P300, and the Olympus XZ-1.
