iOS5 Has Emoticons Built-in
In addition to many international keyboards built-in to iOS 5 to type in language of your choice, iOS5 also adds 6 sets of emoticons in a special keyboard called Emoji that you need to activate to use them.
Here’s how you turn them on:
- Click Settings > General > Keyboard
- Click International Keyboards then select the Emoji keyboard.
Similar to switching to different keyboard, you tap on the globe key to rotate them. Once you are in the Emoji, the bottom row shows different set of emoticons to use; within each set, you can swipe left or right to see more. When you are done, just tap again the globe key to switch back to normal writing mode.
Note these emoticons are only readable amongst iOS devices. For instance, use them in SMS if you are sure the recipient is also using iOS device (that case you should use iMessage instead of SMS). Similarly to emails. See all the emoticons HERE!

Sheesh, this is available in Windows Phone Mango but it’s not even considered as a big deal. Why is anything that happens in iOS such a big deal when they’re just ripping off features from other OS?
