image Over the years, VPN (Virtual Private Network) has been used to secure Internet transaction over public network for mobile workers. Furthermore VPN utility such Hotspot Shield can also be used in various countries where access to the Web is controlled by government or simply to trick country-limited  applications such Hulu..

A mobile (iOS) version has just been released to take that shield protection on to smartphone. The subscription based service costs $1 monthly or $10 yearly.

The app supports the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, providing privacy and protection accessing the web and it also performs a data compression for each transfer to lower your bandwidth consumption.

Hotspot Shield is counting on its current 10 million user-base to expand the services around the world. The app is running at all time as a background process to secure all data transfer and to encrypt all text/SMS exchange.

“The convenience of doing business on mobile devices is now offset by growing privacy and security risks and the skyrocketing cost of mobile data plans”, CEO David Gorodyansky  said

“With Hotspot Shield for iOS, we provide a fast, cheap and secure gateway to all Internet content from anywhere in the world. As Web users increasingly turn to mobile devices, they are counting on Hotspot Shield to provide the same protection and access to a free Web on their phones that we already enable on their personal computers. We’re excited about our new app, which allows all mobile users of Hotspot Shield to stay secure and save money.”
