NASA Discovered Most ‘Earth-like’ Planet Yet

image In a press conference, NASA unveils a startling discovery of a new planet, which  carries resemblance of earth living conditions. The planet codenamed Kepler-22b located at some 600 light years from our planet, circling around its own sun. The weather there is estimated around 72 ºF or 22 ºC and the surface is in solid rocky nature.

The planet’s confirmation was announced by NASA along with other discoveries by its Kepler telescope, which was launched on a planet-hunting mission in 2009.

"This is a phenomenal discovery in the course of human history," Geoff Marcy of University of California, Berkeley, one of the pioneers of planet-hunting outside our solar system, said in an email. "This discovery shows that we Homo sapiens are straining our reach into the universe to find planets that remind us of home. We are almost there."

Since one light year is the equivalent nearly six trillion miles, it would take 22 million years to travel 600 light years on a space shuttle and visit Kepler 22-b with our current technology.
