Meet Evi The New Intelligent Artificial Voice Assistant for iOS and Android

image While Siri is excellent for iPhone 4S and US users, many Android and older iPhone users are left in the cold. Meet Evi, the new Artificial Intelligent assistant app from True Knowledge, a company that provides computerized search & answer algorithm to many other online services. Similarly to Siri, Evi is using Nuance for speech engine. The app is available on both iPhone and Android.

Evi can not yet set up a calendar appointment nor reminder but she can answer questions on cooking and calories, local information and shopping, time and measurement questions, as well as helping you to decide on where to eat, what’s on TV and many, many more topics.

The app recognizes voice as well as text and keeps a history of your question & answers sequentially  for your convenience. Evi offers a very simple but intuitive UI. When you want to type on the keyboard instead of using voice, Evi provides a convenient list of frequently used words or predictive words for the context to shorten your typing.

Evi is supposed to provide direct answers as opposed to links, but during my test, perhaps due to heavy workload due to Internet buzz, their servers did not seem to keep up with the new load to provide adequate answers, I often got links instead. Clicking on location results will display its maps.

The settings asks Facebook connection but did not explain what how it is using it. The developer promises she will naturally get smarter as she grows.

The app reasonably priced at $.99, so it won’t break the bank to try it out.

I couldn’t get Evi to connect to any answers, but ‘Voice Ask’ was able to answer my questions just fine. Maybe Evi will improve, but for now, check out voiceask.com.

Evi shows a lot of promise but at the moment it is not performing. For an alternative that works on the same knowledge base as Evi, try out ‘Voice Ask’, which has been available for some time and is constantly being improved. See voiceask.com

See also ‘Voice Ask’, an app that offers a Siri alternative on the same basis as Evi. It also works on any iPhone, iPad, or Android device. See voiceask.com

Evi is following in the footsteps of ‘Voice Ask’, which has been in the store for some time and has outgrown some of the initial issues that are now plaguing Evi. Check out voiceask.com
