The first wave of Windows 8 tablets and Windows RT did not yield the adoption that Microsoft and its partners had wished. High price and the unfamiliarity of the new UI definitely hinder its success. In order to change the situation, Microsoft is concocting a new interface enhancement dubbed as Windows Blue, which will be named as Windows 8.1 when it is released in few weeks. At the same time, the software giant is rumored to be working on a smaller version of its Surface tablets. Current Windows 8 powered tablets only available in 10 inch or larger and their prices are much higher that the consumer would be willing to spend.
Acer, the Taiwanese hardware maker has been reluctant to carry the ARM-based Windows RT on its tablets but is more aggressive on the mainstream Windows-8 with the recent announcement of its hybrid Aspire R7. An 8 incher tablet that was leaked today on Amazon. The Acer Iconia W3-810-1600 features notably a smaller screen size that has become more popular among users and hopefully the diminutive size will also bring the price gap down to be more in-line with the Android and iOS counterparts.
