Despite other device makers such Samsung, Sony, etc. have pushed to the market smartwatches based on Android, today, Google officially unveiled its Smartwatch platform based on the company mobile OS Android.
The platform is aiming for all forms of wearables, Google thinks it makes sense to start with the watch where the search giant hopes to bring contextual data along with updates from social networks, instant messages to the users using Google Now technology.
Android Wear platform is voice-enabled, user can say “OK Google…” followed with inquiries to interact with Google services.
Basically, Google used the interface it developed for Google Glass and Google Now and put it on a watch. Right now, Google is heavy on Google applications. It is opening it up to developers to come up with their own ideas.

A number of devices manufacturers are on board. LG, Motorola, Fossil, HTC are among them.
