Google Glass while being revolutionary; it stirs up controversial privacy concerns. People are looking into another form factor that hopefully can gain more public acceptance. A Japanese researcher group has come up with a tiny 17-gram prototype computer that clips to the ear, the computer can help the wearer to a number of tasks without being intrusive nor offensive to the surroundings.
The device includes processor, storage, GPS, compass, gyro-sensor, battery, barometer, speaker and microphone. The device’s infra-red sensors detect movements inside the wearer’s ear to allow the use of facial expressions such as blinking or clicking the tongue to control various functions. It can run as stand alone or paired with the smartphone via Bluetooth for talking.
Some of the applications include hearing aid, physical activity & health monitoring, etc..
