An Afternoon Delight With the HTC Touch Cruise
Today, I had sometime to spend with the HTC Touch Cruise. A small Windows Mobile Professional Smartphone (touchscreen) with full of capabilities.
From the outside, this small device sports a flush screen without apparent bezel. The face is covered with a plastic material with glass look. The rest of the device is made with good quality soft plastic in austere black and gray that have become HTC signature colors.
On the top right, you find the camera for video calling. On both sides, there are small glowing lights indicating the Connection/ Battery/ Bluetooth/ WiFi status based on colors green, blue, yellow.
The 2.8″ QVGA screen features the now, famous HTC TouchFLO with 5-way navigation using the finger touch. The TouchFLO interface seems to be more responsive than the HTC Touch that I tested previously. I rarely have to flick the finger twice to execute a command - 128MB RAM might’ve made the difference.
Under the screen located 4 buttons that give a look of touch sensitive buttons, but you can actually push them. The scroll wheel is located in the middle of the buttons. I could use the wheel to navigate through various menus very comfortably.
The unit has a built-in GPS that can be used with any GPS navigation software that you might have. The unit comes with a Tom Tom teaser software version. I did not have enough time to fire it up for a test run.
With very little time I have with the unit, I find this HTC Touch Cruise is very sturdy, responsive and pleasant to use. The 3G connection, FM radio, GPS and a responsive TouchFLO interface will certainly help the unit to stand out.
