The new Apple 3G adds many needed features such faster 3G network connection, Exchange push email and MobileMe sync integration with Web based and offline PIM apps. Picture and files sync and lastly, the support for third party app. However many features that are still missing this time around. Some of them might be more important to you than others but many of them are considered basic features that many dumb phone already have.
- MMS messaging (Multimedia messaging) – A popular feature allowing user to send pictures to other cellphone.
- Higher resolution camera lens. The 2MP is carried over from the current model
- Video recording
- Video chat lacking: it is a pretty much a standard feature for Europe and Asia
- Copy and paste – For Smartphone, text Copy/Paste is a feature that one might use frequently to minimize the text entry effort
- Voice command for a smart device that has microphone. Voice dialing and voice memo should’ve been included.
- Flash support: the ubiquitous Flash format used by YouTube alike sites across Internet still can not been streamed to the iPhone natively.
- Bluetooth Stereo A2DP- Bluetooth Modem – Bluetooth File Transfer. The Bluetooth chip is already present for hand-free dialing. would that be much to add A2DP for the Music focused device.
- iPhone’s on-screen keyboard to flip horizontally for some applications but not for others (emails , Notes). The predictive text is missing the capability to turn off.
Well, there are still MacWorld and WWDC 2010 and Christmas between. Let’s hope….
Engadget Mobile Confirms TouchFLO 3D is Lagging
Several sources including the latest Hands-on review by Engadget, stating the HTC Touch Diamond strong suit’s UI interface suffers response time lagging.
“..Talking about user input for a moment, we were bothered with just a hint of lag throughout the system, which made tapping on things and entering text vaguely frustrating..”

“..Talking about user input for a moment, we were bothered with just a hint of lag throughout the system, which made tapping on things and entering text vaguely frustrating..”
But when I watch the 7-day review video from HERE, the video shows very good response time. The only difference is all the “bad experience” reports seems to come from all US reviewers using the imported device that is not intended for the US market.
Personally, It doesn’t matter how sleek the UI is when there is lag of responsiveness, it is worthless!
HTC, 2 lessons to learn from the iPhone:
- Make sure your UI is speedy before getting too fancy
- Test your device before it gets to the hand of bloggers
This is very damaging advertisement for the “HTC-device-of-the-year”. I hope both Microsoft and HTC address this problem without delay.
CrunchGear’s Crusade: Wearing BT Headsets While Not Driving Makes You A Douche

Why Microsoft is Still Ignoring Podcast on Windows Mobile?
Way before the iTunes, iPod, RSS, Podcast time. There was an application from Microsoft called Plus! Sync & Go that ran on the desktop PC and the PocketPC.

The app offers a convenient way to transfer Windows Media playlists, individual tracks, and a wide audio/video selection of news and entertainment from sites including: MSNBC, Warner Brothers Music, Tech radio, Golf video channel and NPR.
Using Sync & Go offers the convenience of schedule-and-forget-it updates, providing automatic synchronization of any content selected as part of Sync & Go, which keeps headline news stories and other frequently changing data fresh to the storage card on the PocketPC.
That was in the early 2000, Microsoft killed this app on the following versions of PocketPC OS..
Microsoft Mobile Strategy Speculation
Microsoft should know by now, the success of a mobile device is more than just technology and its capabilities. They have to learn how to create a much better user experience, marketing buzz and more importantly something that consumers don’t even know they need it.. In other word, they need to create the next “iDesire” device.
Some Windows Mobile MVP’s (Most Valuable Professionals - WM evangelists) around the country are gathering in Redmond, WA to learn Microsoft new directions in an event that used to be known as Mobius. Hopefully we can hear few more details upon their return.
Would You Pick Large & Thin or Small & Thick Form Factor?
In addition to the functionality, we believe the size of a portable device is very important to its success. There are 3 dimensions to any device Height (thickness), Width and Depth (screen size & keyboard).

Windows Mobile: Train for the Trainer…Why?
I still don’t understand the logic behind Microsoft Windows Mobile marketing? The fact that Microsoft has are 2 sites covering WM, just simply enforces the well spread negative message that WM is hard to use.

Granted, the WM is very capable. One could target IT specialist and the other one targets consumers. But I don’t see that clear distinction between the two. While you can find valuable resources in both (the navigation is not really intuitive for average user), they are not even in sync:

I think, the interface needs to be at least at iPhone standard. The developer seems to indicate more improvements are under way.
Now you ask, why CorePlayer when the iPod function on the device does already such an amazing job? The simple answer:, this is for people who don’t want iTunes to manage their media.
