Granted Nokia has the majority of the worldwide handset market, but with the  pressure of Asian manufacturers; the growing online services from Google, Microsoft, Google as well as competition from Apple iPhone, Google Android, Blackberry and MS Windows Mobile, Nokia feels the need to change its business model.

During Nokia’s annual shareholder meeting yesterday, CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo stated “Our goal is to act less like a traditional manufacturer, and more like an internet company,” Kallasvuo told his shareholders. “Companies such as Apple, Google, and Microsoft are not our traditional competitors, but they are major forces that must be reckoned with. Make no mistake: We are taking on these challenges seriously and aggressively.”

We should expect Nokia will diversify its business more toward Web services as it already started with the Music service called “Come with Music”  and the pending acquisition of the Mapping company Navteq. At the same time we don’t want Nokia to lose its focus on the handset core business.

Sony Ericsson will make available in 2H2008 API’s that allows developers to combine Adobe’s Flash Lite and Java ME into a single Java application. By combining the 2 leading platforms, Sony hopes to provide the best of both worlds to developer as well as user experience.

Java has many APIs (application programming interfaces) that let developers access phone functions like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and secure payments, while Flash lacks some of those hooks, he said. Flash, however, offers some nice user-interface capabilities compared to Java. Using both, developers can build a game, for example, that uses Flash for the menu and Java for other features. “They can mix and match,” said Wretling. “A Java application can utilize graphics and UI components both from Java and from Flash.”

Lately, developers are exposed to many competing mobile software platforms such Google Android, iPhone, Blackberry and Windows Mobile. There is definitely competition about getting developers’ mind share.   [Via Yahoo! News]

The release of V1.2 and now V1.2.3 of Coreplayer offering support YouTube streaming video without the need of Flash.

But the development team promises this is just the beginning… the new media library framework easily allows  to add sites with minimal effort.   But don’t  expect all the video sharing sites will be featured….just the ones that match the targeted  demographic and have the structured feeds that ‘work’.. so with that they share the 5-6 candidates  they want to add now and about 10-15 later on. (and more).
Next up.. DailyMotion, Break.com, Revision3 w/diggnation, tekzilla, etc….

We wish that CorePlayer can playback .flv file format the same way TCPMP does with Plug-ins.

CorePlayer available in our store, check it out if you have not tried.

Users would need an external game control device such the Zeemote that we covered previously.

If you own a Nintendo Wii, here is a excellent solution for you: a new freeware called mobiPad has emerged to make use of the popular Wiimote to be use as remote gamepad for Symbian S60 and UIQ3 powered handsets.

The mobiPad is essentially a free Bluetooth driver that connects a Nintendo Wii Remote to a Symbian OS mobile phone letting you play every game with it and as well control the UI.

This paperless process would save tons of waste at the airports.

Currently, Continental Airlines has begun testing a completely paperless boarding pass. The Continental electronic pass allows travelers to pass through security and board the plane without handling any paper at all. Continental sends a bar code to your mobile device and it is then scanned by security and gate agents.
