I like the Palm Foleo Idea After all!

Undeniably, our mobile devices are packed with power and capabilities to serve both business and pleasure that individual needs. During my busy working day, I just need my Axim X51v and my cellphone to conduct my business. The only problem that prevent me from leaving my laptop home is the diminutive screen and keyboard input. From that perspective, I start understanding the Foleo model.

The Foleo is complementing the Smartphone/PDA, instead of complementing the PC. Its main features are actually the large screen, full size keyboard and the ability to connect and synchronize with a mobile device, hopefully transparently. If Palm really makes the Bluetooth connection seamlessly, I think we might have a winner here.

As an example, if Palm designs the Foleo the same way as the HTC Athena, where the display can be detached from the keyboard. I can envision to use the Foleo as my external screen for my GPS function in my car and during the day, I  can pull the light weight Foleo out to check my email, pull up an attached Work document, PowerPoint presentation, a large Excel spreadsheet or type a long email while my mobile device stays in my pocket to sync all the changes coming from the Foleo and perhaps dialing out to the Internet where WiFi is not available, etc…

Initially, the Foleo requires a Palm Treo Smartphone, but apparently it will work with other Windows Mobile devices with little or no changes and possibly other Smartphone platforms (Symbian?) with small modifications according to Palm

I truly believe, if Palm can achieve the suggestions below. I might get one

  1. Make the screen & keyboard magnetically detachable
  2. Make the battery last longer than 5hrs
  3. Make the BT/WiFi connection seamless between the Mobile device and the Foleo
  4. Most important point: Drop the price from $500 to around $200-$250
