Palm Treo 800w Starts Rolling Out to Customers

12 July, 2008 Posted by SolSie As News, Windows Mobile (0) Comment

Although it is not yet officially available for order, the new Palm Treo 800w smartphone running Windows Mobile 6.1 start rolling to Sprint customer. The user forum posts show several pictures sent in from its users.

imageOne user even shares his price negotiation experiences with Sprint reps:

“just ordered mine (Thursday, July 10th, 7pm). Not only did I get the $249 price, but when I casually mentioned that I was considering getting the iPhone instead, they also threw in a $50 credit to my account to match the price of the iPhone and waived the $18 activation fee. So I just bought the new 800W for $181. Sweet indeed!”

The first experiences seem to be positive, especially in the new enhancement of 3G EV-DO network connection, which allows to connect on the Internet while talking on the phone. The device is much more responsive and the weight is also lighter then its predecessors.

Truphone: VoIP Client App on Apple App Store

12 July, 2008 Posted by SolSie As News, iPhone (0) Comment

imageThe popular Skype VoIP client is not yet available yet in Apple Ecosystem, an iPhone version of Truphone’s service has been released Apple’s App store Friday.

The UK-based mobile VoIP operator has offered the service since 2006 Nokia phones. (While on the Nokia phones, Truphone usage isn’t limited to Wi-Fi spots, but can also work over 3G. So far, this isn’t possible with the iPhone – (Thanks to AT&T!)

The VoIP service lets people send text messages or make calls to anywhere in the world for a low fee – Check the pricing HERE!. Calling another Truphone user is however free in certain countries, including the United States, U.K., China, Australia and large parts of Europe.

A good twist: In April 2007, Vodafone and Orange blocked Truphone’s VoIP capability on its branded Nokia N95 handsets. In June 2007, T-Mobile in the U.K. followed suit, blocking calls from its customers to Truphone’s mobile numbers. But only a month later, a U.K. court forced T-mobile to stop their blockade. We hope a similar move from FCC would be very welcome.

This is a simple small program, who can erase, so called: delivery report,
automatically after the selected time.

If you use SMS message option: Request delivery notification,
you probably quick notice, you have to delete all such reports manually.
What could be quite hard, if you send many messages.

This small utility will do it automatically for you.

You can set the time, when it will erase reports, after the last one you’ve got.
Additionally, this program can announce the delivery notification with a special sound, if you wish.

TGIF: Fun Watch 3G iPhone Blues - Original Song by Leah D’Emilio

3G iPhone Blues

Lyrics

Music by Leah D’Emilio

Lyrics by Michael Gallagher & Leah D’Emilio

"3G iPHONE BLUES"
I woke up this morning on Friday, July 11,
excited to go to the Apple Store to buy my slice of heaven.
I waited in line for 3 hours to get mine:
white, 16 gigabytes for two-ninety-nine.
The phone is thinner, I felt like a winner,
but there was more to buy.
They gave me a two year contract from AT&T,
then I started to cry.
Text messaging is not for free.
One-hundred more dollars for MobileMe.
And I’m not a fan of your monthly plan.
I’m throwing this contract in the garbage can.
‘Cause the new 3G has let me down.
I can’t get a signal in my rural town.
The camera is whack.
Its got a plastic back.
I’ve given too much money to the folks at Mac.
Did you foresee that people like me
wouldn’t be satisfied with your technology?
You thought your next generation
would sweep across the nation,
but your product doesn’t live up
to its expectations.
Did you foresee
that we would be unhappy?
Did you foresee
that we would go and buy the new Blackberry?

iPhone 3G Global Rollout

11 July, 2008 Posted by SolSie As News, iPhone (1) Comment

imageAs I write this post, US East coast customers start rolling in to Apple and AT&T stores to be the first to get the new iPhone as do people around the world.

The frenzy pre-release coverage was actually more exciting than the day of release. So far the global rollout seems to go smoothly without incident. First customers reported the registration does take 1approximately 15 minutes as expected.

Engadget’s Ryan Block went to New Zealand to get the first glimpse of the device and he just posted his long review HERE. This is the first big review from Blogosphere after the 3 mainstream press reviews selected by Apple.

There are not much that have not been covered beside the 3rd party apps that Apple has little control over. Traditionally most devices work great out of the box but things might get bogged down additional apps…

imageMy recommendation is to follow Gizmodo’s marathon  liveblog where they post first impression of  550+ available apps from Apple store. Judge yourself and as always: install with moderation!

Other reviews that I can’t wait to see are the MobileMe and the Exchange Sync. They should emerge shortly.

Update: The iPhone activation server went been down all morning. Customers are sent home for iTunes activation later - Activation server are back online around 1PM PST

Steve Jobs on Apple App Store

10 July, 2008 Posted by SolSie As News, Software, iPhone (0) Comment

image In a recent phone interview with the NY Times, Steve Jobs mentioned 25% of the first 500 applications at the store will be free, … Of the commercial applications, 90 percent will be sold for $9.99 or less, he said, adding that 1/3 of the first wave of applications will be games.

With the App Store, Apple simplified the process of adding software to the phone. Mr. Jobs contends that Apple does not plan to make much money on games and other applications; he has also said the company does not make much money selling music on iTunes. “We are not trying to be business partners,” Mr. Jobs said of the App Store. Instead, he said, the goal is to “sell more iPhones.” Apple gives developers a 70 percent cut of sales. (while Handango gives WM/Palm/Blackberry/Symbian developers only 50%)

iPhone 3G Disassembly Pictures Available

10 July, 2008 Posted by SolSie As News, iPhone (0) Comment

image The iPhone 3G went on sale first in New Zealand early today. Folks from iFixit already posted the dissecting  pictures on the site.

You might ask why people are doing this. Well they want traffic of course and this is a great way introduce the site to the world.

More importantly, many stock investors have started working feverishly to get all the electronic component supplier names to  buy their stocks while they are still relatively unknown.

So, it is not stupid after all! View the pictures HERE! [Thanks Glen Z.!]

Thoughts Aside: Laptop and camera bags are widely used and provide proper protection for these devices. Apart from camera bags , there is range of other accessories to enhance and protect laptop and cell phone camera . Also if your film camera supports advanced connectivity options, you can attach it directly to the digital projector to enjoy high quality videos on big screen. However you might need software driver available from pda software collection.
