SkyFire Beta: WM Browser With Video Flash Supported
Skyfire browser is bringing great hope to Windows Mobile users with the Flash-based contents (e.g.YouTube, DailyMotion video) support. This capability of playing Flash-based videos directly from the web sites has been sorely lacking from other mobile browsers including the iPhone Safari.
Some other features:
- Fast browsing experience
- Watch any videos on YouTube, DailyMotion, Break
- Listen to any music from last.fm, Rapsody, Yahoo! Music
- Stay connect with friends on Facebook, MySpace,
- Browse whatever you want like weather, news, maps, sports and the rest.
So far, I have not seen all the mobile optimization such navigation, zooming yet. These capabilities are also a major factor of mobile browsing experience.
Here are some details about which phones are supported today as well as Skyfire immediate and future plans.
• The initial private beta supports Windows Mobile 5 and 6 phones, both touch-screen and non-touch-screen, in the U.S.
• After Windows Mobile, we will support the Symbian platform in the U.S. – starting with Nokia N-Series and E-series phones.
• Skyfire developers are currently investigating support for Blackberry, but it’s not on immediate roadmap.
• Skyfire developers would certainly investigate putting Skyfire on the iPhone when the timing is right.
• Palm OS phones aren’t supported, but Windows Mobile phones offered by Palm, like certain Treo models, are fully supported.
• Skyfire currently only supports mobile phones. PDAs without a phone number associated to them will not work with Skyfire for now.
• Phones with VGA displays (640 x 480 resolution), will not work with the current beta. We support a maximum resolution of 320 x 320 pixels.
