Just pick up a mesh letter sorter (I got one at $3.99 at Target store) and cut few holes in the back using a pair of cutting pliers
I put a cheap old 7-USB port hub that I no longer need at the very bottom slot. Pick the one that has an external power and possibly USB-1, after all, I just need to pickup the power. Since it is a charging station, there is no need to connect to your computer.
Overtime, I have been using all the USB tips to power all my portable devices therefore connecting to that USB hub is very convenient and it reduce the power cords. But you can certainly use your regular power cords with their transformers. Just need to route the charging tips to the proper position for your device and bundle them neatly in the back.
After about 15 minutes, I have a great charging station that is cheap, versatile and takes very little space. There are plenty of room to grow…
You can optionally put a lining on the bottom of each slot, but I find the mesh is very smooth to the touch, there are less chance to scratch your device.

Ever thought of adding this to the Solsie Store? If the price were right I think I would put in an order! Need a docking station for a Dell Axim x51v, Motorola RAZR, Nokia N73 and a Nintendo DS. Great idea Solsie!
